Jokerlight’s revolutionary recessed luminary convinces the jury from amongst over 4.900 product candidatures from all over the world.
Swap, the Jokerlight’s luminary designed by Rubén Saldaña, has achieved the Red Dot Design Award 2015 for its extraordinary design, convincing the jury of this prestigious international award.
Renowned designers, highly regarded design professors and specialised journalists from over 25 countries have chosen Swap as one of the winning designs, amongst over 4.900 presented candidatures made by over 1.900 companies from 56 countries.
The Red Dot Design Award is among the most famed design competitions in the world, reaching its sixtieth edition. Throughout the world and across different industries, Red Dot is seen as the award for high design quality. The international Red Dot jury bestows the sought-after seal of quality only to those products that stand out clearly from comparable entries thanks to their excellent design.
Professor Dr Peter Zec, Founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “For 60 years, the most-respected design experts have been convening every year in Essen to seek out the best designs. This year we had a record number of almost 5,000 entries – a huge amount of work for our jury members, who assessed each individual product, and a special value of the distinction due to the high standard. The laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 have demonstrated exceptionally high achievements and have thus been deservedly successful in the world’s largest design competition.”
Swap, the design
Swap stands out with a high visual comfort, low glare and elegant and minimalist aesthetics. When switched on, the ultra thin bezel makes Swap look trimless and provides a characteristic appearance of a discrete and elegant circle of light on the ceiling. With no visible edge or trim, switching on a Swap fitting reveals perfect integration between ceiling and luminaire. Swap comes in white, orangey-red and gold. Versions are available with symmetrical and asymmetrical beams of light, 3000ºK and 4000ºK colour temperatures, 8W and 11W outputs and up to 1050lm luminous flux.
Furthermore, thanks to a unique modular design, Swap can be adapted to suit any fitting hole diameter from 75mm to 101mm. To achieve that, two sizes have been designed (M and L) that all include a ring accessory for enlarging the bezel diameter as necessary. By using this optional to apply extra, a single Swap model can cover a range of wider Fitting hole diameters while maintaining its attractive minimalist aesthetic.
This design feature converts SWAP into the ideal lighting fixture to replace recessed MR16 luminaires with its obsolete halogen light sources for this modern, economical and efficient designer product with LED technology. All this with features and a performance superior to any retrofit alternative (switching to LED through bulb replacement only) and no need for repainting or any adjustments to the ceiling and the installation can be achieved tool-free thanks to an easy clip system.
